Storm heroes deserve pat on the back
There were regular folks, just doing what needed to be done, quietly, behind the scenes, during the recent power outage. They deserve a pat on the back:
• Jessica Podpallock, the executive director at Harmer House, a 60+ rental community in Bells Corners, who was out daily from May 24 to 27 picking up food and delivering it to Harmer House.
• Her staff from the adult day program, along with Gerry Dupont and facilities manager Willis Boldt, who took turns lugging a coffee cart up and down three flights of stairs. Residents were provided a morning/afternoon and evening check in: hot coffee/tea/snack, afternoon lunch and a hot meal for dinner.
• At The Conspiracy Theory Restaurant in Bells Corners, Jeff and kitchen manager Andrew Uber. A special thank you to Paul, the owner, who covered the cost of the labour to provide a total of 400 meals for the Harmer House residents.
• Joan Wright and Ken Rosehart, who set up/ran the device-charging station at the Westcliffe Community Centre.
• Local resident Ross Mutton, who delivered extra batteries, chicken pot pies and six cases of bottled water, with the help of Kim Vidal at BC United Church. Freshco in BC, for donating the above mentioned water.
• Bob, a Harmer House resident, who manned the barbecue to cook food items for residents as freezers unthawed.
• Rick Chiarelli, who arranged for delivery of donated fresh fruit to Harmer House, delivered the day after power came back on, to help residents replenish their fridges.
Everyday heroes, all of them!
