Briargreen Playground Due to be completed by September 2nd! After 2 long years, there is finally an end in sight! As of August 3rd, a section of swing and a spring toy had yet to be delivered which has been very disapointing for our little ones. When a project is only partially completed, it is not common practice to open it until it is. It has left neighbourhood children looking through a fence at the new equipment just waiting for them. Slides and climbers and swings, oh my! The contractor team were on site beginning on Tuesday, August 23rd to install the remaining equipment. now all's thats left is to lay down the ground treatment(s) and clean up. Barring any major weather mishaps or other crises, it should be open by the weekend. Thank you to all Briargreen residents for your patience, updates and support throughout this project. We look forward to the seeing all the happy faces! |

Congratulations to the Bells Corners BIA!
Yesterday, City Council unanimously passed a motion, seconded by Councillor Jan Harder, to name the Right of Way between Robertson Rd. and Northside Rd.
Thanks to the efforts of the Bells Corners BIA, it is hereby known as Cameron Highlander Plaza.
In addition, an appropriate stand with a historical plaque will be installed to include a brief history of the regiment's contribution within the Canadian Armed Forces dating back to 1862.

Graham Creek Renewal Project Update
January 20, 2022
January 20, 2022
- The contractor has started mobilizing into Lesley Park from Dayton Crescent. Please ensure that children don’t use this entrance and that they remain safe from moving trucks and construction equipment.
- Work is planned this weekend (Jan 22/23) to start-up the deep groundwater pumping system. This pumping system will be running continuously for the duration of the work and the pumps and generators are contained within soundproof enclosures and will be surrounded by an extra layer of hoarding to help further reduce noise levels.
- Construction in Lesley Park will continue with the goal of completing the storm sewer replacement and new creek outlet structure before the spring run-off.
- The storm sewer is located near the base of the Lesley Park Tobogganing hill. As a safety precaution, the hill is closed to tobogganers this year.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nancy Tutton who lost her life while crossing the road at Moodie and Old Richmond Rd a week ago today. Thank you to her long-time friend, F.C. for sharing Nancy's story. She will not be forgotten. In light of the circumstances surrounding Ms. Tutton's passing, we have requested that staff revisit a previous review with a greater emphasis on pedestrian safety. In 2018, we commissioned a report for the Transportation committee regarding the possibility of a speed reduction on Moodie from 60 kms to 50 kms This was with the support of a resident petition that was widely circulated and endorsed. The opinion of staff was that under the current designation of 'Arterial' roads, The provision of speed limits considers the roadway function and its design. Implementing a speed limit that does not align with these considerations may result in enforcement difficulties and increases in traffic hazard. |
Circumstances have clearly changed considerably since 2018 and we cannot ignore the increase of traffic that accompanies the growth of communities served by Moodie Dr.
The members of the Fatal Collision Review Committee have met to review the details of the accident. The investigation is still open and details cannot be disclosed at this time.
While the eventual release of details may offer support for redesigning the intersection to be controlled, we have not waited to initiate the process of weighing of available options aside from a speed reduction as posted signs can be easily disregarded.
Among those options, traffic lights, pedestrian lights, traffic circle and Automated Speed Enforcement cameras (though ASEs are still a pilot project under the Province of Ontario’s Bill 65 – Safer School Zone Act).
We are actively pursuing any and all options that are currently permitted within the Provincial Highway Traffic Act.
We do have an additional speedboard that was ordered for review this past fall to be installed south of Old Richmond Rd.facing NB traffic and we hope that it will help mitigate the very real risks of speeding during the review processes.
Moodie Drive has been a challenge for a long time and will continue to be without a re-examination of the existing weaknesses and implementing compelling mitigation measures.
Have a warm and safe weekend.
