This Sunday May 27th at 4:00pm on channel 64 WPBS will be featuring Algonquin Hour – “A Year in Review, a compilation of student achievement throughout the year”. This video is a product of many hours of hard work by the Film and Animation students at Algonquin College and is an excellent way for these recent graduates to promote themselves internationally.
This is also an excellent chance for Algonquin College to increase their presence in international markets and bring in students from other parts of Canada and the US. Councillor Rick Chiarelli has played a very intricate role in saving WPBS here in Ottawa. Upon hearing that Rogers TV was planning on dropping the Watertown Broadcast station in August of 2009, College Councillor Rick Chiarelli began a serious grassroots campaign to keep the local station on the air. With much work and dedication as well as with the strong support of the community Councillor Chiarelli’s wish of keeping WPBS on air has now become a reality. Looking to make use of the great relationship that was formed with the station as a result, Councillor Chiarelli set forth on a plan last year to link Algonquin College’s television and film program with WPBS as a broadcast opportunity. He felt this partnership would help Algonquin College gain recognition in the States and across Canada and lead to increased resources as well as College enrolment. After working on this fantastic opportunity for over a year, meeting with heads of the various interested College Departments, and meeting with WPBS directors, Councillor Chiarelli is very excited to announce the first airings of Algonquin Student’s work in film and animation which takes place this Sunday at 4pm on channel 64 WPBS and hopes you will tune in to support!
